I like Lithuania – a visitor's point of view

Tastes change in Vilnius

A few years ago I enjoyed visiting “A taste of Lithuania”  (Lietuviškas Skonis) just off the cathedral square near the Amberton Hotel on Odminių g.

It was a family run cafe bar which made very nice fresh food, provided free wi-fi and sold some nice souvenirs. (See my earlier post on it). They also had a shop at Vilnius airport for a while.

Last year when I went it was nowhere to be seen. Now there is a spa and massage parlour in its place.

Whether it will still be there next time I visit is anyone’s guess.

P1010227 Things seem to change quickly in Vilnius at the moment with some shops closing and new restaurants opening.

And just off the cathedral square near the Amberton Hotel (where the restaurant has also changed) on Odminių g. there is a new restaurant and shop called a Taste of Lithuania (Lietuviškas Skonis).

P1010226You can sit outside but it was hot when we visited in June and with its light clean interior, friendly helpful staff, and free wi-fi, it was an oasis of calm just off the busy cathedral square and Gedimino pr. junction.

Apart from the freshly-made food they also serve a good cup of coffee, fruit drinks and ice cream and there are also many things you can buy to eat or as gifts, all made in Lithuania.

DSC_0469My colleague and I looked at the hand-made dolls (picture courtesy of Kindadukish) but ended up buying the hand-made teddy bears for our families (not cheap at 80 Litas each but very well made).

P1010461The one I bought is called Bangele!

P1010289FYI They also have a shop at Vilnius airport where they sell items at the same price.
